Lauren Henkin will be exhibiting a body of work titled “Growth” at Newspace Center for Photography in Portland, this September. Lauren came to Seattle and we printed for five days straight from scanned 4×5 and 120mm color negatives plus one 4×5 B&W. Thirteen color images in two sizes, 28×35″ and 18×22.5″, were done on Hahnemühle German Etching, a beautiful warm white paper with a slight tooth that exhibits very high color gamut and density.Like much of her black and white work, her tonality is not over dramatized, is extremely subtle, and works very well with this paper surface for a smooth and present image.
We also made one large black and white print of an subtle high key image. Utilizing hue changes with both paper selection and inks created a very iridescent print. Hahnemühle Bamboo was selected as the paper, which has a slight warm base, then the highlights begin with with with Cone Selenium transitioning into a blend of warmer Cone inks.
