I had the opportunity to meet and work with artist Jay Shoots, who will be displaying a variety of pieces, two and three dimensional, at Zeitgeist here in Seattle. His eight by ten inch negatives were drum scanned and we worked out an ink setup that felt similar to his older Agfa selenium split toned prints, with a reddish hue in the darker tones.

The prints are 29″ x 34″ on Canson Edition Etching and they will be stunning on the walls. I had the opportunity while at his studio to see some of the other things he was preparing to show, it will be very enjoyable, I would not presume to reveal anything in advance, beyond what I had the opportunity to produce.

Jay’s original of this image is a beautiful cyanotype contact print, the negative of the photographed set was sandwiched with the actual paper piece and printed together. For our large version, the negative was scanned, and the translucent paper piece, which he had saved, also scanned and layered to the negative scan, using the cyanotype as a guide to precisely replicate his original placement.
With these pieces, other photography he may include, the assemblages he makes and more, Zeitgeist should be a compelling visit during this show.

There will be a First Thursday event for this on August 3rd at Zeitgeist in Pioneer Square.
Also, be sure to visit Jay’s website to read more about him and see work at http://jayshoots.com/
