SERVICES AND PRICES

Custom Digital provides the highest quality drum scanning, Ultrachrome, and multi gray and black ink carbon pigment digital printing. Epson 9900 and 9880 printers are used with an advanced RIP giving extremely precise control over how the inks go to paper, colors are calibrated and matched, grayscale inksets blended and linearized. It is optimized for control of Cone monochromatic inks for the B&W process, and for color carefully linearized, optimized and profiled in 6 channel CMYKOG. Two different color profiling applications are used to the best possible results on a variety of papers. This combination represents one of the most advanced approaches to outstanding color and black and white digital printing available. The RIP also allows us to make special Ultrachrome ink setups for monochromatic printing outside the gamut of the Cone inks, a strong sepia for example, that yield superior results to standard color printing. Very high quality unique Ultrachrome monochromatic setups with the gloss black are developed for use on the photo surface papers quickly coming into their own in the marketplace.

For monochromatic ink printing we use a custom mixed warm ink set and a cool set with a tint designed for the slight eggplant hue of a selenium toned print. This, along with the options provided by the software, allows the artist to select between all warm, all selenium, or many blending options from the two ink sets including split tones. These inks are primarily carbon pigment and designed for “the absolute greatest available longevity and monochromatic color stability” by the manufacturer, Cone Editions Press, the leading innovator in the development of fine digital monochromatic printing. In 2011 the trusty 9600 used for this process was updated to a 9880 for more reliable nozzle performance and more refined tonal control. In 2012 the ink mix was updated from the custom Piezotone mix, to a custom mix utilizing finely tuned combinations of the Cone K7 sets, blended to achieve the same hues.

The primary papers, after much ongoing testing, are from Hahnemuhle, Canson, Cone, and Epson.
For matte these include Canson Rag Photographique and Edition Etching, Hahnemuhle William Turner, and Epson Hot Press Natural.
For photo surface papers the options are Cone Type 5, Harman By Hahnemuhle Gloss Baryta, Hahnemuhle Photo Rag Baryta, and Epson Premium Luster.
Setups for unusual uncoated fine art papers like Arches are also available, and I will also linearize these processes on any paper for special projects.

I maintain close working relationships with industry innovators and excellent suppliers to keep the services offered at the leading edge of craft.

With many years of experience, the highest quality materials, hardware and software, our goal is to work with artists to meet their specific needs and bring their images alive on paper.
